Welcome to the

GODSTONE EVENING WI GROUP

In accordance with Government guidelines all our physical meetings and activities have been suspended until further notice - however we are running informal Zoom Meetings, every Wednesday to include items such as Bingo, Beetle, poems, quizzes, etc.  On our Programmed meeting days there will be an official Zoom meeting with a speaker - but not as per the Programme.

At our ANNUAL MEETING in November 2020
held on zoom, our Secretary Sarah Brindle, who had held that post since our WI started up in 2007 and Moira White who had been a member of the Committee since 2007 and President for the past 6 years, both stepped down.

The new committee was voted in and then Anita Black was voted as the new President.
After the formalities, members were treated to musical entertainment by James HB from Duality Music UK  who sang a medley of lovely songs.

On Saturday 17th October  we held our first virtual fundraiser in aid of
St Catherine's Hospice
I am delighted to say that we raised over £400.
A big thank you to everyone who took part and donated.

One of our members has written a poem about our WI Zoom Meetings:-

Ode to Godstone WI – Zoom!

Every Wednesday night the Godstone WI meets on Zoom

And for its members it is a real boon

                        With Anita’s technical expertise

Members can all now log on with ease

Friendly faces appear and with a wave and greeting

It is very soon time to start the meeting

Some join in with tea, coffee, beer or a glass of wine

Penny is usually having her dinner which of course is fine

Lots of topics we have explored

Which means that there’s no time to be bored

                        We’ve enjoyed sharing our recipes

Tips on gardening and swapping seeds

Bingo, a Beetle Drive and Moira’s quiz which we marked ourselves quite fairly

A Pam Ayres Poem from Linda and Godstone’s history from Mary

Three very interesting and informative speakers we’ve had

They have all been great, not one was bad

We had a meeting talking about kindness received or given

And a guilty pleasure for which we did not need to be forgiven

Good deeds small and big were relayed

And guilty pleasures wine and chocolate a big part played!

We comfort each other and laugh together during our hour

And between us all we now know where to get flour!

Our hour long Zoom sessions are special you see

And we always finish in time for The Sewing Bee!

We are pleased that our Membership continues to grow. We are a young minded, friendly and enthusiastic group of ladies who meet once a month plus other times for clubs.

By joining our Evening WI, it is an excellent way of making new friends and to enjoy the wonderfully diverse range of activities and talks we have every month. Due to COVID-19 we have not been able to carry out our published programme of events but the Committee work hard to find a Speaker each month who is prepared to do their talk on Zoom.
Everyone is welcome, so if you are interested in coming along to try us out, or to join particularly if you have just moved into the village, or surrounding area, please contact us or just turn up to the next meeting. The visitor's fee is £3 and we serve tea and coffee and usually home made biscuits!

With regard to the Resolutions put forward this year, there is a report from our delegate on the Resolutions Page.  It is very interesting.

Also on the Clubs Page after the information you will find the recipes from Jo Banks which she demonstrated to us at the meeting on 29 April - 'Alive with Flavour'.  Just right for the summer!
